Cyber Resilience & Internet Safety
As with literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing, digital literacy is be placed at the heart of all learning at Comely Park. This includes: using digital devices and services in a variety of contexts to achieve a purposeful outcome; searching, processing and managing information responsibly; and cyber resilience and internet safety.
Digital devices provide many great opportunities for the whole family, including activities for learning and creativity, as well as entertainment and enjoyment. When used correctly, in moderation, and coupled with and not to the detriment of other activities, the use of technology can be beneficial to your child; but with a caveat that uncontrolled usage or overuse can cause problems and may pose a risk. Below are some useful links containing help and advice so that you can make an informed choice on what’s right for you and your whole family.
We often hear from parents and carers that managing screen time can be a source of conflict with their children. The UK Safer Internet Centre and Childnet offer guidance on a range of topics, including 'Screen Time & Healthy Balance'; there are lots of simple things you can do as a parent or carer to ensure that you feel confident about your child’s interaction with technology, and set achievable goals that work for your family.
Additionally, Parent Club offer an extensive range of tips and advice you can trust to help with the highs and lows of parenting; including online behaviour and safety. Browse support by age group.

Connected Falkirk
Investing in our Children and Young People
Connected Falkirk will give children and young people in our schools the confidence, skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an ever-changing, fast-paced digital world. Digital learning and remote working are now part of all our lives and this innovative project plays a critical role in preparing our young people to live, learn and work in a truly digital age.
Connected Falkirk will:
- provide a digital device for all Primary 6 to Secondary 6 school pupils
- provide a number of devices to Primary 1 to Primary 5 classes
- provide a device to every class teacher, supported by an accredited professional learning programme
- ensure fast, reliable Internet connectivity in all our schools
- provide families with an opportunity to be digitally connected

Digital technology continues to revolutionise how we interact with the world around us - and this is even more apparent now. That is why we need to better prepare our children and young people for the future. Connected Falkirk will provide them with the general and specialist digital skills needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world. It will also assist children and young people with Additional Support Needs, and those who have English as an Additional Language, with their learning.
By providing a device that goes home with the child, families will also be digitally connected to their child's learning, improving engagement and involvement.

Supporting families online, Internet Matters offers expert support and practical tips to help children benefit from connected technology and the internet safely and smartly.

Common Sense Media offers advice in addition to a range of guides and reviews for movies and TV, books, apps and games which can be filtered by age and topic.

ThinkUKnow resources are aimed at different age groups and includes materials for pupils and parents/carers. ThinkUKnow is the education programme from NCA-CEOP, a UK organisation which protects children both online and offline.
