Learning for Sustainability
Learning for Sustainability is a cross-curricular approach to creating coherent, rewarding and transformative learning experiences. It’s all about learners, educators, schools and their wider communities building a socially-just, sustainable and equitable society. It supports an effective whole-school and community approach by weaving together global citizenship, sustainable development education, and outdoor learning.
Learning for Sustainability is an important component of Curriculum for Excellence, an entitlement for learners, and a core part of teachers’ professional standards. It supports the development of knowledge, skills and values at the heart of the curriculum’s four capacities and provides a mechanism for promoting and working towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals - all in a wide range of education settings.
In addition to planned learning experiences, every pupil in our school is a member of a Learning for Sustainability Group. Through these groups, every pupil can actively contribute to the ethos and life our school community through using their “voice”, making decisions and taking action.
Each group has agreed aims and work together to make a difference. Pupils from primary 1 to 7 meet with their groups monthly so that they can work together to achieve the aims they set out at the start of a year.
Eco School & Green Flag Award
The Green Flag Award is a visible indication of our school's pupil led approach and commitment to Learning for Sustainability and an internationally recognised accreditation for excellence in sustainable education.
The Green Flag Award is based on the Seven Elements, the core of the Eco-Schools programme in every participating country.

As a Green Flag Award recipient, each year our Eco Committee choose to work on and maintain three Eco Schools themes.
Litter and Waste is always a core theme. The other themes that we work on as part of the programme include:

Unicef UK Rights Respecting School Award!
Comely Park Primary School and ELC aims to be an establishment where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. As part of this plan we are working towards recognition as a ‘Gold Rights Respecting School’, an award given to schools on behalf of Unicef UK.
Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.
Comely Park Primary School and ELC pupils will learn about their rights by putting them into practice every day. A Rights Respecting School models rights and respect in all its relationships. Our P4-7 pupils represnt our school on the Falkirk Children and Young People's Committee to help pupils and staff across Falkirk to work together to make important decisions.

Enterprise in Education
Enterprising Learning and Teaching is part of our culture at Comely Park Primary School. Very strong links have been developed throughout our community and also within the Falkirk High School cluster primaries network.
We endeavour to ensure that our Platinum awarded Enterprise in Education programme gives our pupils a wide range of experiences that provides them with an understanding of the world of work and the opportunities that are open to them.
Our approach is based on the five basic principles:-
- Giving pupils responsibility
- Making learning real
- Taking roles
- Providing relevance
- Encouraging reflection
Our aim is to encourage our children to have the confidence and belief in their ability to succeed in whatever they choose to do in the future, whether they go on to be successful employees, employers or entrepreneurs.
We ultimately aim to help our pupils acquire knowledge, skills, dispositions and capabilities not only in order to work and earn a living but also to live satisfying lives and play a full part in the complex and ever-changing society of the future through life-long learning.
