Better Relationships, Learning and Behaviour

Charters

Pupils are consulted to create Class, Playground and Lunch Hall Charters which help to set expectations for everyone accessing these spaces, to ensure a safe, inclusive and purposeful environment. These are linked to the UNCRC and helped Comely Park to create the ethos which secured the learning community a Gold Rights Respecting School Award in 2025.

Star of the Week

A chosen Star of the Week from each class will be awarded every Friday . Pupils choose a prize from our prize box and will be awarded a certificate.

Golden Tickets

A weekly winner from each class will have the opportunity to take part in a fun cooking activity within The Hive on a Friday.

Celebration Assemblies

Identified pupils will be awarded a ‘Values’ certificate during our school celebration assemblies. This is awarded to pupils who are demonstrating our School values within and beyond their class.

School House System

At Comely Park children are encouraged to support, interact and have fun with their peers and pupils across the whole school. Our four school houses are named after our local community parks - Callendar, Dollar, Helix and Victoria. Every pupil in our school, P1 - P7, is placed into a House when they join our school. This breaks down barriers between the year groups and creates a sense of togetherness. Our staff are all also assigned a House.

In Term 1, pupils vote within their house for their new House Captains. Each candidate completes an application form, and presents an election speech to their peers before pupils vote. The House Captains meet regularly to discuss, plan, organise and host House events. They motivate and enthuse the pupils within their respective House; meeting with all pupils in their house twice a term to discuss their achievements, upcoming events and rewards.

All pupils have the opportunity to earn House points for their House. Pupils receive House points for demonstrating our three school values: 'friendship', 'respect' and 'trying your best'. Points are earned and recorded daily throughout the school in every class. Our Prefects collect and record the total points weekly. Pupils are then informed of the weekly winning House on a Friday and receive an extra 5 minutes at interval every Monday.

There are also bonus points and rewards which can be earned through termly events and interhouse competitions in which pupils from each house can participate in, ranging from sporting events to creative or STEM themed competitions and even House quizzes. We aim to recognise achievement across different areas of the curriculum so pupils can access a variety of competition that suits all. The winning house from each term earns a special House reward at the end of term, with points earned throughout the session contributing to the award of the House Cup at the end of the year.

Reflection

Pupils, when necessary, will take part in a reflection time/restorative conversation with a member of staff, which will be focused on the school value which has not been demonstrated. Should your child take part in a reflection time, an email will be sent home to inform you. Pupils will also complete a reflection sheet and bring this home, so you can discuss this with your child and support them in making positive behaviour choices. Please sign and return this. The vast majority of our pupils will find that this will help them to recgonise their positive efforts, and at the same time allow them to maximize their learning opportunities.
